COMPLETE GUIDE TO GALLE, SRI LANKA 🇱🇰 If you're planning a trip to Sri Lanka, don't skip Galle! ✨ Located on Sri Lanka's southwestern coast, around 125 km from Colombo, Galle is a charming coastal city best known for the iconic Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that beautifully blends history, culture, architecture, cafés, boutiques, and ocean views. 🏰 A little history: The Portuguese first arrived in Galle in the 16th century before the Dutch transformed it into a fortified trading hub in the 17th century. Much of the fort's architecture you see today dates back to the Dutch colonial era, making it one of the best-preserved colonial forts in Asia. 💡 How long should you stay? We highly recommend spending at least one night here to truly experience the magic of Galle after the day-trippers leave. Wander through the cobblestone streets, catch a sunset from the fort walls, explore hidden cafés, and soak in the laid-back coastal vibe. Unfortunately, we only had time for a day trip during our Sri Lanka adventure, but we absolutely loved every moment.
