It is situated around 88 km from Coimbatore, 125 km from Mysore, and 265 km from Bengaluru. The scenic route from Mettupalayam to Ooty passes through 14 hairpin bends, so drive carefully, especially after sunset. 2. If you visit Ooty in May, don't miss the iconic Ooty Flower Show, which attracts visitors with its vibrant colors. 3. No visit to Ooty is complete without trying authentic Nilgiri tea, homemade chocolates, and Varkhee. 4. Book the UNESCO Nilgiri Mountain toy train ride on the IRCTC website at least 2 weeks in advance during the off-season and around 4 weeks in advance during peak season (March to June and September to November). 5. Avoid staying in the main tourist hub. Opt for accommodations a bit further away to enjoy the best views. Lovedale, about 8 km from the hustle and bustle, is a great option. 6. There are no two-wheelers available for rent in Ooty. You can book a full-day auto for around Rs. 1200 or a private cab for around Rs. 2500 for sightseeing. If you have your own car, that's the best self-drive option. 7. Alcohol shops are not widely available. The common ones are TASMAC and the Government wine shop located in Upper Bazaar Ooty. 8. Skip the common tourist spots and visit less explored places like Avalanche and Emerald Lake, Saint Monica Lake, Pykara Falls and Lake, and Toda Tribal Museum. 9. If you have an extra day, visit Madumalai National Park, which is about 57 km from Ooty. 10. Ooty is a plastic-free zone, so make sure not to litter, as you could face a hefty fine.
