18 months is such a fun age. Toddlers are becoming more independent, curious, and determined every day. By 18 months, many children can: • Walk independently • Walk up a few steps with support • Pull toys while walking • Climb onto and off furniture • Point to show interest or ask for something • Follow simple one-step instructions • Say a few meaningful words besides "mama" and "dada" • Shake their head "no" and use other gestures • Recognize familiar people, objects, and body parts • Imitate everyday activities like talking on a phone, sweeping, or feeding a doll • Scribble with a crayon • Use a spoon with some success • Show affection to familiar people • Explore independently while checking back with caregivers for reassurance Every child develops at their own pace, but it is worth discussing with your pediatrician if your child: • Is not walking independently • Does not use any meaningful words • Rarely points or uses gestures to communicate • Does not respond to their name • Shows little interest in interacting with others • Has lost skills they previously learned Milestones are not a competition. They are simply guideposts that help us support our little ones as they grow. ❤️
