The last 72 hours have been a rollercoaster. It started with a sudden 104°F fever. My toddler refused food, refused water, wanted only breast milk and cuddles. We gave Calpol according to her weight, monitored her temperature, kept her hydrated with breastfeeding, and spent the night watching every breath, every cry, every movement. The fever would come down and then spike again. At one point she slept for hours, and like every parent with a sick child, my mind went to the darkest places. I checked her breathing countless times. I worried about dehydration. I worried about everything. Then came the loose green stools. No appetite. No interest in even her favourite cookie. Just booboo and Mum. And that's something I want to talk about. When toddlers are sick, our job is not to force-feed them. Their little bodies know what they need. For us, that meant focusing on hydration, comfort, rest, breastfeeding on demand, and keeping a close eye on warning signs. When she refused regular meals, I simply kept offering gentle, easy-to-digest foods without pressure: 🍌 Banana 🥣 Curd 🍚 Khichdi 🍞 Toast 🥝 Kiwi 🍉 Watermelon 🥛 Buttermilk Some she accepted. Most she didn't. And that's okay. At the same time, I didn't take any risks. A high fever followed by diarrhea in a toddler is not something I wanted to self-manage completely. We visited our pediatrician, got her examined, and followed the prescribed treatment plan for diarrhea while continuing to monitor her closely at home. What helped us: ✔️ Giving fever medicine according to her weight ✔️ Seeking medical advice instead of guessing ✔️ Following the doctor's prescription ✔️ Not forcing food ✔️ Offering breast milk frequently ✔️ Monitoring wet diapers and hydration ✔️ Letting her rest as much as she wanted ✔️ Keeping meals simple and easy to digest ✔️ Staying calm even when we were scared Today, she's active, playful, and back to being her mischievous self. Parenting a sick child is one of the most helpless feelings in the world. You would trade places with them in a heartbeat if you could
