The Bhakti saints did not write merely to praise God; they wrote to challenge inequality, rigid traditions, and exclusion. I liked how the author explains history without making it feel distant. The cultural and social background of medieval Tamil Nadu is explained simply, helping the reader understand why this movement mattered so much.What made history interesting for me was how the author focused on people, not just events. Their choice to write in Tamil instead of Sanskrit made me realize how powerful language can be. It turned devotion into something shared, not restricted. The book helped me understand that history is not only about kings and wars. It is also about songs, faith, and quiet courage. It also made me appreciate history as something warm, layered, and deeply human. It reminded me that change doesn’t always shout, sometimes, it sings. Rebellion in Verse reminds us that sometimes the strongest revolutions begin softly, through words, songs, and faith.
