Dear Indian Women’s cricket team, The other evening, my 6-year-old daughter Aarna went down to play in our society — bat and ball in hand, full of excitement. A few elder kids told her, “Cricket is for boys, go play hopscotch instead.” She came home confused. And as a mom, it broke my heart — because I grew up hearing the same thing. That cricket was for men, and we were meant to just clap from the sidelines. And we did, with all rigour. But last night, when you lifted that World Cup — something changed. Not just for you, but for every little girl who’s ever been told she can’t. You didn’t just win a trophy. You won hearts. You won respect. You won belief. And something healed in all of us! You fought for every run — not just on the field, but in a world that questioned your place in the game. You’ve shown our daughters that cricket isn’t just a “men’s game.” It’s their game too. Aarna watched you play with me — her eyes glued to the screen, cheering louder than ever. And in that moment, I saw it… That tiny spark of belief. That, she could hold that bat too — and no one can tell her to put it down. That’s why, this victory felt personal. Thank you for showing our girls what strength looks like. For making them believe that no dream is off-limits. And for reminding all of us moms — that it’s never too late to play too, which means, even I’ll register for my society’s upcoming cricket tournament now.
