How Visiting Udaipur, the City of Lakes, Sparked My Child's Curiosity About Landscapes⬇️⬇️⬇️ 🌈Travel has always been an integral part of our homeschooling journey, providing T with hands-on learning experiences that go beyond books. One of our most memorable trips was to Udaipur, often called the "City of Lakes," which turned into an unexpected lesson on geography and landscapes. 🌈As we strolled along the serene shores of Badi Talab and Fateh Sagar Lake, T popped a question saying What is a lake, and how is it different from a river?" 🌈This simple question also led me to Google a few facts like I knew the difference but how to explain it in easy terms to a 7 year old was something that made me think. Learning About Lakes and Rivers To satisfy his curiosity, we delved into the following topics during our visit: 1. What is a Lake? Standing beside the still waters of BADI TALAB , I explained that a lake is a body of water surrounded by land, often formed naturally or artificially. Udaipur's lakes, I added, are human-made and play a critical role in the city's water management. This led to questions like: ❓"How were these lakes created?"❓ "Why are they so important for Udaipur?" Together, we learned how Maharana Udai Singh II built Lake Pichola to support the city's water needs, blending history with geography. 2. How is a River Different? While lakes are stationary, rivers flow continuously from one point to another. I compared Udaipur’s tranquil lakes to the flowing Ganges River, which he had seen in videos. This distinction helped him visualize how rivers carve valleys and shape landscapes over time. Traveling to Udaipur turned a simple observation into a comprehensive geography lesson, proving once again that the world is the best classroom, and curiosity is the best teacher.
