Here’s how a simple journey became an educational moment for us during our recent trip to coonoor Ooty and mysore 🌈Since we were self driving we used to often discuss among ourselves like how far is the next destination etc because of which T started asking questions like, “How far is 10 kilometers?” and “What is a meter and a kilometer?” 🌈These queries sparked a conversation about the units used to measure distance: meters and kilometers. 🌈Hands-On Explanation: We explained that 1 kilometer equals 1,000 meters, helping him visualize the concept by comparing it to familiar distances like "apne gharse station kitna door hai etc" 🌈Real-Time Application: As we saw road signs indicating distances, we’d estimate the remaining time to reach a destination. For instance, if a sign said “5 km,” we’d discuss how long it might take if driving at a certain speed. Why It Worked⬇️⬇️ 1. Interactive Learning: The back-and-forth conversation allowed T to think critically and ask follow-up questions. 2. Relevance: The lesson tied directly to our journey, making it practical and memorable. 3. Repetition: The constant references to distances during the trip reinforced the concept naturally. This is a simple example of how travelling can open doors to so many new queries in the minds of young children leading to learning new concepts practically Stay tuned @diariesofts for more updates [ Learning while travelling, unschooling life , unschooling family, practical learning, homeschooled toddler ,right parenting , early child development ]
