who is more environment-friendly the bicycle or me? 🤔 Did you know that while cycling might be one of the most environmentally friendly ways to get around, the meat and dairy industry is actually worse for the environment than the entire transportation industry? 🤯 It sounds unbelievable at first, but according to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), livestock farming is responsible for approximately 14.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions - slightly more than what’s produced by all the world’s cars, planes, ships, and trains combined. These emissions come not only from carbon dioxide, but also from methane and nitrous oxide, both of which are far more potent than CO₂ in terms of their global warming potential. But the environmental cost doesn’t stop at emissions. The livestock industry is also one of the leading causes of deforestation, particularly in places like the Amazon, where land is cleared to grow soy - not for human consumption, but to feed animals. In fact, meat and dairy take up 83% of the global farmland, yet provide just 18% of the world’s calories. Water usage is equally alarming: producing just 1 kg of beef can require up to 15,000 litres of water. This system is not only inefficient - it’s environmentally unsustainable. So while choosing a bike over a car is a great step for the planet, rethinking what’s on our plate might just be the most powerful climate action we can take 🌏 . . . #veganfortheenvironment #bicycle #vegangirl #veganlifestyleblogger #govegan #veganisthefuture #squatqueen
