Whether it’s the South or the North of India we all wear Yellow today. But why do we wear yellow on Basant Panchami? Now as many of you know I am from UP married to a Tamilian, so let me explore this from both sides. Basant Panchami is the festival which marks beginning of spring in which mustard fields are blooming and so the colour yellow is predominant. Beyond this yellow is also the colour of Goddess Sarasvati who is worshipped today. Now since I am married to a Tamilian today kids are initiated into the world of learning by writing their first letters in rice or sand and they also worship the tools of their trade, just like the Vishkarma Pooja North Indians do during Diwali. In UP we make yellow sweet rice and in South we make Pongal. Though today I just enjoyed bhog that my Bengali friends had organised ☺️ [Basant Panchami 2026, MaaOfAllBlogs, Indian Culture With Prerna, Prerna Sinha]
