The Ken-Betwa River Linking Project, still riddled with unresolved concerns, has reached a point where dissent is increasingly being met with suppression, as seen in many large-scale projects. At Dhondhan village, where dam construction is now at its peak, pressure on local tribal communities to vacate their land has intensified. Allegations of forceful displacement are growing louder. For over two months, affected communities have been resisting—mobilising through continuous protests to defend their homes and livelihoods. Their movement has taken multiple forms of satyagraha, including jal satyagraha, chita andolan, and sanketik fansi, alongside sit-ins, road blockades, and gheraos of the collector’s office—calling for their demands to be addressed before it’s too late.
