Eleanor. What a beautiful name. I first heard it in Gone in 60 Seconds, and it stayed with me long after the credits rolled. Funny thing is, I was never really into the whole “name your two-wheeler” thing. It always felt a bit forced. But then Toothless happened. And after that, the Aerox needed a name too. This is Eleanor’s story. I’m a big guy. All of 6’2” and 85 kilos. Which usually means scooters and I don’t quite agree with each other. Around 2021, I was very very close to buying the KTM 390 Adventure. I loved that motorcycle. Still do. The new one is even better but that’s a story for another day. The only reason I didn’t pull the trigger was Toothless. The Z was still very much around, and another motorcycle in the garage just didn’t make sense. I have always believed motorcycles aren’t meant to be collected, they’re meant to be ridden. No judgement at all on people with multiple bikes. Its just that I see things differently. The scooter decision came from a simple need. I couldn’t ride Toothless everywhere. I needed something more utilitarian. But it still had to be fun. Then Yamaha launched the Aerox. I did what every buyer does. Fell deep into the rabbit hole. Forums, international reviews, comparisons, ownership reports. And because of the perks of my job, a veryyyyy long test ride. I even went so far as to call manufacturers directly, asking if they had a “big” scooter in the pipeline. A bigger NTorq? Nope. A bigger Burgman? Naah. A bigger Honda? Umm..no. That was it.
