A couple of crucial things to know: 1) If you use an intercom, silicone earplugs work brilliantly. You are still aware of what’s happening around you, can hear traffic and horns, and you can still enjoy those bangers playing in your helmet without cranking the volume to unsafe levels. 2) Foam plugs kill noise to a major extent. I like them for short highway runs, but on long tours it’s not ideal to be that cut off all the time. Horns sound faint, engine noise is almost mute, and overall situational awareness takes a hit. So make a choice. But make one. It’s 100% worth it for your hearing and your riding comfort. FYI - For foam plugs, 3M is my go-to. Cheap, effective, does the job. My silicone plugs are from Ride Mute via @visorpro.in And full honesty, I have zero experience with custom-moulded plugs, so I won’t pretend to have an opinion there. . . .
