As we celebrate World Heritage Week, one is swept away in a tide of awe at the richness of India's heritage. A jewel of India's heritage is the legacy of the Hoysala Empire of Karnataka who were great temple builders. The beautiful temples some well-known, and some enveloped in obscurity, are a tribute to the artistic genius of the Hoysala master craftsmen. The UNESCO World Heritage Site of The Sacred Ensembles of the Hoysalas, are a paean to these craftsmen. The temples of Belur, Halebeedu, and Someshwara, are the pinnacle of the perfection of the temple building craft by the Hoysalas.
