It is a fascinating experience to visit Halong Bay in Vietnam. The unique UNESCO World Heritage Site is made up of many exotic islands, gorgeous beaches, and mysterious caves. Ha Long Bay is spread over a massive area of 1,533 square kilometres and is dotted with 1969 islets, most of which are limestone. It is fascinating to note that the limestone islets have undergone 500 million years of formation in diverse environments and climatic conditions. Over the last 20 million years, these islets have developed into Karsts, a unique topography with underground caves, sinkholes, and poljes (flat-floored depressions).
