Part 3 (The Hunt) “Alright, Street Triple 765 it is” that’s what I told myself after shortlisting the bike on paper. I particularly wanted the RS, as it had more power, Ohlins, TFT, and quickshifter over the R. Color wasn’t a big deal since the bike itself isn’t that common. Beggars can’t be choosy, eh? Two other prerequisites I set were mileage and ownership. Anything over 20,000km was a no-no. And so was anything over 2 owners. What about accessories? Well, I’ve never been much of a modification freak. I was perfectly fine with a stock bike but bits like frame sliders and fork protectors were a plus. Then began the real rat race of trying find a clean example. I was spending hours on OLX, Marketplace, Droom, and multiple other superbike sales groups on Facebook just to find a ballpark of what model of a 765 RS goes for. Plenty of dealers had 2017-2018 765s but yet again, I realized they weren’t the way to go. Almost every dealer listing was asking for around Rs 1-1.5 lakh more than what the average price by a direct seller was. Most of the bikes I found were also outside of Delhi, which was my last resort since going to check the bike there is a hassle in itself and if it’s not clean, you waste a lot of time and money in the process. Fun fact: since South India has much more registration taxes and they pay more for a new bike, the asking prices of used bikes are higher there, especially compared to Delhi. After what seemed like an eternity, I barely found 3-4 bikes and neither was fully convincing. More than 2 owners, deceptively low odometer, “loaded” with accessories that drove the price up, or simply a neglected machine. All this while, I was still riding my RC over the weekends. One such weekend, I ran into a friend who I totally forgot had a Street Triple. He said something that would take my superbike hunt in an entirely different direction.
