1️⃣ India’s burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) has grown dramatically: deaths from NCDs rose from ~37.9% in 1990 to ~61.8% by 2016.  2️⃣ The share of disease burden (DALYs) in India from NCDs rose from ~30% in 1990 to ~55% in 2024.  3️⃣ Globally, four major NCDs (cardiovascular, cancer, diabetes, chronic respiratory) cause about 74% of deaths.  4️⃣ An estimated 80% of NCDs and premature deaths are preventable or manageable if detected early and addressed with prevention.  5️⃣ Key modifiable risk-factors include: tobacco use, harmful alcohol use, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity.  6️⃣ In India many adults have these risk-factors: e.g., high salt intake ~72%, insufficient physical activity ~55% in some studies.  7️⃣ The global preventive healthcare technologies & services market was valued at US $243 billion in 2022, and is projected to reach US $585.6 billion by 2030 (CAGR ~11.8 %).  8️⃣ For India specifically: the preventive healthcare segment is rapidly rising; the broader digital-health & prevention market in India is expected to grow at ~22% CAGR and reach ≈ ₹1.5 trillion by 2030.  9️⃣ For med students/doctors: this means new roles are opening — think epidemiologist, health-data specialist, preventive health-programme manager, digital-health consultant — not just “doctor in clinic”. Stay ahead by mastering epidemiology, biostatistics, health-IT, AI/analytics. 🔟 Career tip: Combine your medical degree + preventive/public-health skill-set = high demand “doctor + systems” professional.
