⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 The year 1315 felt distant and unfamiliar. But within the first few chapters, all of that distance disappeared. Eva Fellner writes in a way that pulls you directly into the world, making you feel the cold of the Scottish highlands and the tension of a land at war. What I found most interesting was the political layer of the story. I did not know much about the Bruce brothers or their invasion of Ireland before reading this, and learning about those real historical events through Enja's eyes made them feel urgent and immediate rather than like facts on a page. The involvement of Pope John in Avignon was especially surprising to me. It showed how wars are not only decided by soldiers but also by powerful people making decisions far from the battlefield. Enja herself is the heart of the book. She is brave but also scared, strong but also hurting. Watching her wrestle with the choice between vengeance and mercy taught me something about what real courage looks like. It is not the absence of fear. It is choosing to do the right thing even when every part of you wants to take the easier, darker path. I would recommend this book to anyone my age who thinks history is not for them. It changed my mind completely. Highly recommend this book!! #bijrc #magicalbooktour #booktour #bookislandofjuhi #reading
