Even when the country was fighting a war to raise its head with dignity, there was an event that helped boost the nation’s morale. This was the time when “Swaraj” was associated with the date 26 for nearly 20 years. In Bihar, Patna had a place that served as a key site for leaders during the freedom struggle. Bahawar Pokhar, located near Sabzibagh in Patna, is not just a park but a historic field where many important events of the freedom movement took place. When Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru announced Purna Swaraj in 1929 at the Lahore session of the Congress, he urged the nation to celebrate Independence on 26 January every year. As the Congress headquarters was located a bit far from the city, a large open space was needed in Patna to gather crowds. For this purpose, the field of Bahawar Pokhar was used to hoist the Congress flag every year for nearly 20 years. Today, Bahawar Pokhar is a park, but it holds a special place in Bihar’s contribution to the Indian freedom struggle. @not_that_sharma 📝 Follow us for more content @unzip_patna #unzippatna #bihar #26january #republicday #india
