They are lessons that still shape our lives in the most personal ways. 1. “Freedom is not given, it is taken.” Growing up as a girl in an Indian family, I slowly understood what this really means. Solo travelling is not just about booking tickets and packing bags. It is about convincing your family, answering endless questions, facing doubts, and challenging the silent expectations that say girls should not travel alone. I understood one thing clearly. If I do not fight for my freedom now, I may never experience solo travel or truly understand the world on my own terms. 2. “Life loses half its interest if there is no struggle.” I understood this when I planned my first solo trip. From convincing my family to managing my budget, from hearing that it is risky to proving that I can handle it, nothing came easy. There were moments when I felt like giving up. But when I finally boarded that train alone, I realized something important. If everything had been easy, the journey would not have felt this meaningful. And this struggle became a part of the journey I will always remember. 3. “Freedom starts when fear ends.” Standing at the railway station with my backpack, I was not sure if I was brave or foolish because solo travel is not just a trip, it is a decision. My hands were shaking and my mind was full of doubts, but I knew that if I went back, I would miss the chance to learn independence, confidence, and how the world really works. That train did not just take me to a new city. It taught me how to plan, adapt, trust myself, and see life beyond comfort zones. Freedom is not always about nations. Sometimes, it is about choosing your own path even when it feels difficult.
