When it comes to spine health, there’s a lot of misinformation out there. Many of the things people think will help can actually slow down your recovery or even worsen your condition. As a spine specialist , l’ve seen this firsthand. That’s why I want to clear up some common misconceptions and share 4 things I would never recommend if you’re dealing with spine pain: 1️⃣ Prolonged Bed Rest Resting might seem like the best solution when you’re in pain, but extended bed rest actually weakens your muscles and slows down recovery. Movement is essential for improving blood flow to the spine, which helps the healing process. 2️⃣ Overuse of Pain Medications While medication can offer temporary relief, relying on it too much only hides the problem without fixing it. The real solution lies in addressing the root cause, not just numbing the symptoms. Medicines should be used sparingly and in combination with movement-based treatments. 3️⃣ Avoiding exercise Many people stop exercise entirely when back pain strikes, but avoiding strength training is not the answer. Under proper guidance, can actually strengthen the muscles around your spine, offering long-term support and reducing pain. 4️⃣ Long-term Use of Lumbar Belts Lumbar belts can provide temporary relief, especially in the early stages of back pain, but over time, they can make your muscles dependent on external support. It’s better to strengthen your muscles and let them provide the natural support your spine needs. Your spine was made to move! Gentle, controlled exercises can correct posture, reduce pressure on the discs, and help your spine heal. Movement, when done right, is the true path to lasting relief. Don’t rely on quick fixes !!!
