Would you trek 2hrs to see sunrise 🌅 Climbing Pidurangala Rock for sunrise was truly one of the highlights of my trip to Sri Lanka. We began the hike around 4:30 AM, guided only by headlamps and the cool morning breeze. The Pidurangala Rock hikestarts with stone steps and an easy trail through the forest, but quickly turns into a fun scramble over rocks closer to the top. Along the way, we stopped briefly at the ancient reclining Buddha statue,a beautiful reminder of the site’s history. The final climb over large boulders was a bit challenging but incredibly rewarding. As we reached the summit, we were greeted with the most breathtaking sunrise view in Sri Lanka— a panoramic landscape bathed in soft pinks, oranges, and golds. Right in front of us stood the iconic Sigiriya Rock,glowing under the first light of day. The view from Pidurangala is unmatched if you want a peaceful, less crowded alternative to Sigiriya, while still capturing the beauty of the surroundings. Watching the sun rise over the lush forests and ancient rocks was a magical moment that made the early morning effort completely worth it.
