Samakka Sarakka Jathara is one of Asia’s largest tribal festivals, held once every two years in 📍Medaram village, Mulugu district, Telangana. Approximately 240 – 270 km from Hyderabad by road depending on the route you take. Scheduled this year from 28th to 31st January, the festival is dedicated to the tribal goddesses Samakka and Sarakka, who are revered for their bravery and sacrifices. The Jathara attracts millions of devotees from across Telangana and neighboring states, making it one of the largest gatherings in India. Devotees often walk long distances on foot as a mark of faith to attend the festival. The fair is marked by rituals, prayers, and offerings, including jaggery, bangles, and coconuts. Unlike many traditional festivals, there are no idols, and the goddesses are symbolically represented with bamboo poles and cloth. The event is a celebration of tribal culture, devotion, and unity, turning Medaram into a vibrant spiritual hub for several days.
