A video showing a chips packet allegedly sold at double MRP inside a cricket stadium has gone viral after fans claimed that a packet carrying an original ₹50 printed price was being sold for ₹100, with a fresh sticker reportedly placed over the existing MRP. The incident has triggered criticism because while stadiums may charge premium prices for freshly served food, pre-packaged items like chips cannot legally be sold above the declared retail price if the package is being retailed as-is. If a new sticker is placed in a way that hides or replaces the original MRP without proper legal compliance, it may violate Rule 18(2) of the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011, which prohibits sale above retail sale price, and Section 36 of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009, which penalizes sale of non-standard or improperly declared packaged commodities. Under current rules, revised MRP stickers are allowed only in limited compliance situations and the original printed MRP must remain clearly visible, not concealed. Such overpricing can also be treated as an unfair trade practice under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 ⚖️📦 #ipl2026 #ipl #cricketstadium #cricket #ardroxz
