What was supposed to be just a drive from Galle to Weligama turned into one of my favourite days in Sri Lanka 🐢💛 #SriLanka2025 We started at the Hikkaduwa Sea Turtle Hatchery — a quiet little place doing such meaningful work, rescuing injured turtles, nursing them back to health, and releasing them into the ocean. The highlight? Holding tiny baby turtles and seeing a few rare species I’d only ever read about. From there, we drove into the emerald-green tea fields of Handunugoda Tea Estate. Their white tea is legendary — once reserved only for emperors — and after hearing the whole story, watching the delicate picking process, and tasting every variety from strong greens to floral whites, I couldn’t leave without a box (or two). Also couldn’t resist buying cinnamon — peeled right in front of us — so fresh you can smell it from metres away. Our last stop before Weligama was @cactus_ahangama in Ahangama — ocean waves just a few steps away, the kind of place where you could sit for hours doing nothing.
