Pathuriaghata Tagore Palace, a living testament to the illustrious Tagore family's legacy, stands in the heart of Kolkata. Built during the Bengal Renaissance in 1734, this palace witnessed the transformative societal and cultural evolution of the Bengali people. Originating from Jessore District, the Tagores played a significant role in shaping Kolkata's cultural landscape. The bifurcation of the family into the Pathuriaghata and Jorasanko branches marked the beginning of a rich history, with Darpanarayan Tagore and Nilmoni Tagore leading the two branches. . The Pathuriaghata branch, under the leadership of Darpanarayan, continued its influential journey with Gopimohan Tagore, a patron of learning and supporter of social reformer Rammohan Roy. Prasannakumar Tagore, Gopimohan's son, furthered the family's legacy as an esteemed pleader, a member of the legislative council, and a founder of the first local theatre, The Hindu Theatre.
