Mishti (Sandesh / Sondesh) making in Kolkata is a work of art and so as the moulds which helps in carving intricate designs on the Sandesh.⁣ 🚫 NO REPOST WITHOUT PERMISSION 🚫 ⁣ A fine mishti mould, with an intricate pattern, is a work of art. ⁣ Two things are required to create these moulds: wood and carving tools. ⁣ ⁣ You can spot an elaborate set of chisels, with blades of varying length in these shops.⁣ ⁣ The art of creating these designs is dying as people have started relying on machine cut moulds.⁣ ⁣ The sandesh mould are made of wood — segun — which cut into small blocks first and then the design is carved in. ⁣ ⁣ In a mould the design, carved in relief, is in reverse.
