Today is Thursday, My favourite day of the week. I am currently on my way back home from Raghavendra Swamigala Matha, where I enjoy singing during the svasthivachana. It’s something I love doing now, but when I was a kid, I always wanted to eat outside. However, my family strictly avoided onion and garlic, so eating outside was not an option. As I grew older, my father became more generous and occasionally treated me to chats and pizzas after work. On Thursdays, I would always visit Rayara Matha and sing devotional songs and lullabies after my dance class. The route from my dance class to the temple took me through Ratha Beedhi, where numerous chats shops tempted me. Unfortunately, I wasn’t allowed to indulge on Thursdays. Still, I secretly saved money specifically for those days, disregarding my father and mother’s rules, and enjoyed some chats in secret. There were instances when my father came searching for me and my sister, making sure we weren’t eating anything outside. Now, as time has passed, I have chosen not to consume onion or garlic on Thursdays voluntarily. It’s amusing to reflect on how everything has changed for the better. I often tease my dad about how he denied me the food every child desired and made me sing in all the temples, even during somber occasions like funerals.
