The Supreme Court of India refused to grant divorce to a 54-year-old man who has been paying ₹15,000 per month to his estranged wife for the last 16 years. A bench of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta said that ₹15,000 is “hardly anything in today’s time” and asked the man to present a reasonable permanent alimony proposal if he wants divorce. The man argued that his monthly income is ₹65,000 and paying ₹15,000 is a burden, but the court suggested that he should either live with his wife or offer a proper settlement. The wife, however, told the court that she wants to return to her husband and is not interested in permanent alimony. 📢 Court asked him to come with a reasonable proposal. 📢 Next hearing scheduled for April 7. 💬 Do you think ₹15,000 maintenance is low in today’s time? #LegalNews #genzdigest #LawAndOrder #Trending
