This is a proud and emotional moment for Assam and the entire Northeast. Lachit-1, the first satellite from Northeast India, was built by students and faculty of Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU) in collaboration with Hyderabad-based Dhruva Space. Named after legendary Ahom warrior Lachit Borphukan, the satellite symbolises courage, innovation, and Assam’s rich legacy. The project involved over 50 students and faculty from five Northeastern states, showing the region’s growing strength in science and space technology. Lachit-1 was launched aboard ISRO’s PSLV-C62 on January 12, 2026, marking a historic step for student-led space missions from the Northeast. This matters because it proves that Assam and Northeast India are ready to dream big and contribute to India’s space future.
