Ground Reality: Yala to Ella Drive | Post-Cyclone Road Conditions & Travel Update We just completed the drive from Yala to Ella, and here's what you need to know if you're planning this route in December. The Roads: A2 coastal highway and inland routes are in excellent condition—smooth tarmac, clear signage, and normal traffic flow. We took a spontaneous detour to Buduruwagala to witness the world's largest standing Buddha carved into rock, and it was absolutely spectacular. The access road was perfect, so don't skip this hidden gem. Landslide Awareness: While roads have been cleared post-Cyclone Ditwah, you'll notice visible landslide scars along hill sections, especially as you climb toward Ella. Infrastructure teams have done incredible work reopening routes, but stay alert—avoid stopping near freshly cut slopes, reduce speed through repair zones, and keep your eyes on weather changes since the northeast monsoon kicked in December 4th. #SriLanka #EllaRoadTrip #YalaToElla #TravelUpdate #ResponsibleTravel
