Dr Altaf Masood MD Paediatrics (Gold Medal) 1. Your child will get sick. Often. That does not mean their immune system is weak. It means it is doing exactly what it is supposed to. 2. Building immunity does not come from supplements or juices. It comes from getting sick and recovering. This is how the immune system learns. 3. Daycare is not making your child sick. It is simply introducing them to the same viruses every child will eventually meet. 4. The cough that lasts for three weeks is normal after a viral infection. The mucus you are tired of wiping is also normal. 5. Antibiotics do not treat viruses. Giving them just in case does not prevent complications. It only increases resistance and causes gut issues later. 6. If your child's energy is okay and they are drinking fluids, they are probably fine. Look at your child, not just the thermometer. 7. Fevers are not dangerous by themselves. A fever means the body has turned up the temperature to help fight infection. 8. You do not need to rotate Tylenol and Motrin by default. You can, but you do not have to. Comfort is the goal, not a perfect number on the thermometer. 9. Kids cough to protect their lungs. Trying to stop every cough is not helpful. Cough medicine does not work under six and usually not much over six either. 10. If you are on day four of everyone being healthy, you are right on schedule for winter. 11. When parents say their child has been sick for three months straight, they usually mean five viruses back-to-back. That feels the same but it is not dangerous. 12. You do not need to sanitize your entire house. You will just dry out your hands and your bank account. 13. Honey, saline, humidifiers, and patience work better than most medications during viral season. 14. You cannot boost the immune system, but you can support it with sleep, good food, hydration, and vaccines. 15. RSV, flu, and COVID vaccines are available, and kids can safely get them at the same visit. 16. If your child is not eating much while sick, focus on hydration first. Fluids matter more than calories for a few days. 17. You can always call your pediatrician for reassurance. That is not overreacting. That is good parenting
