According to the Airports Authority of India (AAI), annual passenger traffic at the airport increased from 2.33 lakh in 2014-15 to more than 14.11 lakh in 2025-26, registering growth of over 504 per cent. Revenue rose from Rs.5.98 crore to Rs.87.97 crore during the same period. Aircraft movements increased by more than 225 per cent, while the domestic network expanded from three destinations — Delhi, Hyderabad and Bengaluru — to nine cities, including Mumbai, Chennai, Tirupati, Visakhapatnam, Kadapa and Kurnool. A major milestone was achieved in December 2018 with the launch of international operations connecting Vijayawada to destinations such as Sharjah and Singapore. The airport was designated a Haj embarkation point in 2023 and has facilitated travel for 2,861 pilgrims over the past three years. The airport has also witnessed significant infrastructure expansion, including runway extension, apron development, a new Air Traffic Control tower and construction of a mega integrated terminal building, scheduled for completion by December 2026. #vijayawadaairport #royalcityvijayawada #vijayawadadiaries #bezawada #andhrapradesh
