Going back into history, it was during this second week of June that the commercial business landscape of Vijayawada transformed. Sir Arthur Cotton, who developed the Krishna River delta system, utilized this very June climate to lay the foundation and speed up the construction of the Prakasam Barrage (the old anicut of that time). He used to get the water channels ready before June 12, just as the summer heat subsided and before the rains started.
