NTR district collector Dr G Lakshmisha on Thursday announced that International Museum Day celebrations will be organised in Vijayawada on May 18 in a grand festive atmosphere with several heritage and cultural programmes. He appealed to students, youth, senior citizens, organisations and the general public to participate in large numbers and make the celebrations a grand success. The celebrations are being jointly organised by the Tourism and Archaeology Departments along with the district administration and Vijayawada Utsav Committee. Addressing a media conference here, the collector said Vijayawada, considered the gateway to the new capital Amaravati, is witnessing several innovative programmes as part of the district’s comprehensive development initiatives. He said special events planned at the museum include guided tours, discussions on “Museums in the Modern Day,” Vijayawada Heritage Quiz competitions, Heritage Photography Hunt, painting competitions and cultural programmes. A laser show highlighting the importance of museums and patriotism will also be organised, he added. He said prize winners of various competitions will be felicitated during the event. As part of the evening programme titled “Roots Reloaded,” a live musical concert will be held at Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium featuring playback singer Geetha Madhuri and her troupe along with Band Sehari, he explained.
