Chiang Mai vs Chiang Rai: Things I wish I knew before planning this trip If you're visiting North Thailand, don't make the mistake of treating Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai as the same destination—they offer completely different experiences. ✨ Chiang Mai is best for:• Cafés & coffee culture• Night markets• Temple hopping• Mountain drives• Slow travel vibes Plan at least 3–5 days here if you want to explore without rushing. ✨ Chiang Rai is best for:• White Temple• Blue Temple• Tea plantations• Scenic cafés• A quieter, slower atmosphere 1–2 nights is usually enough to experience it properly. In between, Captured every moment on my Sony ZV-E10 II and had a smooth journey with AirAsia ✈️ 🚍 Important things to know:• Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai are around 190 km apart. • The journey takes roughly 3–4 hours one way. • There is no direct train between the two cities. • Buses are the most popular and budget-friendly option. • If you're short on time, don't try to squeeze Chiang Rai into a rushed day trip. 💡 My biggest tip:If your trip is under 5 days, focus on Chiang Mai.If you have 6–7 days or more, add Chiang Rai and stay overnight. #farakpadtahai #createwithsony #flyairasia #airasiaflythru #airasiatravellersquad
