Raulane in Kalpa Shot on @sonyalphain . . High in the mountains of Kinnaur, there is a festival that very few people outside the valley know about — Raulane. Believed to be an ancient Himalayan tradition, this festival marks the end of winter and the arrival of spring in Kalpa. Villagers gather to celebrate and thank the mystical guardians of the mountains who, according to local belief, protect the village during the harsh winter months. At the heart of the celebration are two chosen villagers who become a symbolic couple — Raula (the groom) and Raulane (the bride). Their faces remain hidden behind traditional masks and heavy Kinnauri woollens as they walk through the village and perform sacred rituals. In silence and slow, almost trance-like movements, they visit temples and receive offerings from the community — a ritual believed to honour the celestial spirits known as Saunis, who are said to protect the valley during winter. Watching Raulane felt like stepping into a story that has been alive in these mountains for centuries. Not a performance. Not a spectacle. But a living tradition — carried forward by the people of Kinnaur. Some journeys show you beautiful places. And some journeys let you witness a culture that time has carefully protected. 📷 Sony A7 M IV . . #createwithsony #kalpa #kinnaur #himachalpradesh #sonyalpha
