The Pacific Coast Highway drive between Los Angeles and San Francisco is easily one of those drives that makes you want to slow down, stop often, and just take it all in. It’s a 7–8 hour drive on paper. We did it in 2 days and still felt it deserved way more time. If you’re short on days, these stops are totally worth it: 1. Santa Monica Pier 2. Santa Barbara 3. Big Sur coastal stretch + Bixby Bridge 4. Monterey Bay But if you can stretch the trip a little longer, add these to your route: • Malibu (especially El Matador Beach) • Morro Bay • Carmel-by-the-Sea • Pfeiffer Beach • Hearst Castle • Half Moon Bay This is one of those routes where the more time you give, the better it gets.
