why can’t we leave any animals alone? 🙁 across the world, donkeys are being slaughtered at an alarming rate for their skins, which are used to produce a traditional medicine called Ejiao. made from donkey-hide gelatin, ejiao is marketed for benefits like improving blood circulation, anti-ageing, fertility and boosting energy - despite no scientific evidence to support this claim. the demand has become so extreme that millions of donkeys are estimated to be killed every year, causing donkey populations to sharply decline across parts of Africa, Asia and Latin America. in many rural communities, donkeys are not just animals - they are lifelines. families rely on them for transport, farming, carrying water and earning a living. India, home to one of the world’s largest donkey populations in the past, has also seen a devastating fall in numbers over the years (from 4.4lakh in 2007 to 1.2lakh in 2019 as per census data). concerns around illegal trade, trafficking, poor welfare conditions and slaughter linked to the skin trade have been repeatedly raised by animal protection groups and researchers. thankfully, awareness is growing. several countries have started taking action through bans and restrictions on the donkey skin trade, while organisations across the world continue working to rescue donkeys, support local communities and push for stronger protections. donkeys are gentle, intelligent, hardworking animals who have quietly served humans for centuries. they deserve safety, dignity and compassion, just like every innocent animal does. organisations doing vital work to protect and care for donkeys include @donkeysanctuary @mfa_india @pfa.official @fiapoindia @animalaid_india @animalrahat . . . #donkey #donkeys #donkeysanctuary #animalrescue #vegan
