A BYD SUV in China comes with a unique feature that launches a built-in drone from the roof. During heavy traffic, the driver can send the drone up to check road conditions ahead without stepping out of the car. Called Lingyuan, the system was developed by BYD in partnership with DJI. The drone streams live video directly to the car’s dashboard, can follow the vehicle at speeds up to 54 km/h, and automatically lands back on the roof to recharge while the car is moving. The feature costs around $2,200 and is currently limited to China. While it could help with navigation, emergencies, and off-road driving, it also raises concerns about safety, privacy, and drone regulations in different countries. Media: @byd_global
