These pictures were taken at Devalia Park in Gir, and not at the main Gir National Park. 👉🏻 Consider prioritizing Gir National Park for an authentic jungle safari experience, while Devalia, spanning 16km, should only be your last resort if you haven’t spotted anything after exploring the main park thoroughly. Devalia is largely a camp and a rescue centre for animals. 👉🏻 Woods at Sasan booked me for a 5-6 pm slot, which is a brief 1-hour visit, unlike traditional safaris. The evening timing is touted as the best for wildlife sightings. Accompanied by myself, the PR manager, a staff member, a driver, and a government-appointed forest guide, we embarked on the safari in a caged vehicle, as many wild animals in this area have a history of attacking humans. 👉🏻 This was my first time on a safari with such a large group; all my previous experiences involved just one experienced naturalist and one forest guide. And I came to the realisation that I prefer it that way. It’s crucial to explore forests with people who can share insights into the small details you might otherwise miss out on. 👉🏻 Here’s a rundown of my Devalia Safari: Within just 5 minutes of entering the park, we spotted a sambar deer. Shortly after, we saw spotted deers. Another 5 minutes passed, and we caught sight of a female nilgai (blue antelope). Then, within another 5 minutes, we encountered a lioness. Not long after, a lion appeared, and we spent about 10 minutes photographing it. Soon after, we saw a male nilgai. Finally, within 5 minutes, we observed 6-7 leopards from a distance in an enclosure. And with that, the safari concluded. 👉🏻 Here’s a vital tip for anyone planning a forest safari, regardless of its duration: please maintain silence. While you might not be keen on listening to the sounds of nature, many guests and wildlife photographers are genuinely interested in it. Moreover, it’s essential not to disturb the animals in the forest by being loud.
