The taped neck (pic 2) serves as a poignant reminder that her (my nani) significantly aged body no longer readily reveals veins for the medical team to place chemo ports. Frustration reached its peak as they relentlessly searched for suitable veins in her arms and other less painful areas, eventually conceding and inserting the needle directly where the tape clung. Just last month, her right breast underwent surgery, and now, she is bereft of both. Sadly, another growth, the malignancy status yet to be confirmed, has taken root closer to her heart, subjecting her to unrelenting anguish. She’s endured so much, and at this stage in life, she feels as though her body can no longer withstand the relentless assault of knives, radiations, and therapies. Her deepest longing is to reunite with her beloved husband, lost to cancer over a decade ago, and to witness her little boy grow beyond the tender age of 8. Just as celebrating life is not personal anymore, grief and suffering should also be shared. It should become a critical part of our life’s documentation.
