This is the foundation of true Emotional Literacy for Kids. #EmotionalIntelligence As fathers, we know about child development, but a key parenting best practice is often missed: actively teaching our kids to understand their emotions. This positive communication is about turning everyday moments into powerful teachable moments. It’s not about perfect behaviour. It’s about emotional awareness. Theirs and ours. Like yesterday, a moment of frustration became a lesson in how to apologize properly. I shared a simple structure for a meaningful apology that fosters emotional intelligence: 1. Acknowledge the action. 2. Express Regret genuinely. 3. Explain the feeling (naming the emotion!). 4. Outline the Fix for next time. This father son communication was a win. But the real parenting win was modeling it myself. I apologized sincerely, showing him that mindful parenting and conscious parenting are a two-way street. This parenting journey is a partnership. We aren’t just raising emotionally literate kids; they are raising our emotional literacy too. This is the core of gentle parenting and positive parenting.
