Every other mom is busy as it's exam time for kids and it's good in a way. But, the way we put the whole picture of exams in little brains, matters a lot. Listing following pointers for first time exam givers which can soothe the tension and get the real learnings done:- 1. Take it as a mode of learning and gaining knowledge instead of focusing on marks. 2. As parents, what words we speak in front of our children matters a lot. If we ourselves take it as going to battlefield, target oriented goals like achieving 'x' marks as baseline, it will put a wrong impression in child's brain and he/she will turn out as an individual constantly fearing and worrying about marks. 3. Never ask who scored how many marks in their class. It automatically sparks either competition or low self esteem. 4. Remember to constantly remind them to focus on learning, understanding and implementation of concepts and not just what is in the portion or will be asked in the exams. 5. Keep the home environment very relaxed yet systematic. Be available when they need you. 6. Exams does not mean no play, no parks or no entertainmen. Instead, the more they feel happy, the more they will be able to concentrate on studies.Let them take charge of their time. 7. Never pressurise them to score 'x' marks as baseline. Little brains does not process such instructions and gets confused. 8. Neither reward nor disrespect them for marks gained. They will equate the rewards or punishment with your love. Instead, work on where they lack the concept understanding and help them in learning that. 9. Most importantly, they should not feel afraid or hesitate in sharing their feelings with you. One thing which we always tell our child as parents is, " just write whatever you know and don't worry at all. We know you will try your best" . This boosts confidence and assurance that my parents will always have my back. And more than anything else, a child always needs a safe and loving home to blossom.
