Recently we went to a religious workshop for 3 days and Raj had participated in a storytelling competition. Being the child who loves to perform, he has participated earlier too in various competitions at academic and religious levels too. We prepared the script, practiced at home before leaving for the destination and he was pretty much clear about the concept. The competition was to be held at night and so in the afternoon, we thought of practicing at the same auditorium for familiarity while performing. At the first practice session, he spoke, but got scared in between looking at the huge hall. He fumbled, forgot the lines, kept looking at me and was about to give up. The organisers also were like how will he perform? I told them to trust me and they did. And this is how the narrative changed:- 1. I told Raj that from stage, the auditorium looks very small compared to when you look at it from the opposite end. And he believed me. Because, he always believes me. Sometimes, we need to trick their brains to boost confidence. 2. I told him to focus at the camera uncle who will be shooting the programme so his video can turn out to be good. Being a Child blogger, he understands the camera angles, lightings, shoots etc very well so that part was easy. 3. I requested the organisers to dim the lights on audience when he is performing. Though, I had not informed this to Raj and had told him that all your friends, relatives etc would be sitting, but you cannot get distracted and need to pay attention to your performance. Preparing your child for any consequences makes them stronger when the hurdle comes up. 4. Knowing his strength and weakness as a mother has always helped me so far and this time around too, I knew that he has sharp memory ( a trait passed by his dad) and he will recollect the lines and he did that. Knowing your child closely, trusting their plus points always helps. 5. Lastly, we both worked as a team. We practiced non stop for 2 hours for a four minute speech and when he performed, all my words came true to the organisers. A mother always knows and wishes the best for her child. When someone believes in that fact, magic happens. Contd in comm
