Did you know Kolkata was once home to a thriving Jewish community? From the arrival of Shalom Aaron Cohen in 1797 to the rise of the Baghdadi Jewish community, the city’s Jewish legacy shaped its trade, architecture, and culture in remarkable ways. Magnificent synagogues like Naveh Shalom, Magen David and Beth El still stand as silent witnesses to a rich past. And only in this city, these synagogues have been lovingly maintained by Muslim families for generations.
