People hate you at work? Good. You’ll still get promoted if you do these things right. Being liked at work isn’t the same as being respected. And respect is what gets you promoted, not popularity. You don’t need to be everyone’s work bestie. You need to be undeniable. Don’t confuse likability with respect. Likability makes people comfortable around you. Respect makes them trust your judgment and fight to keep you on their team. Say no when others say yes. Declining extra work and setting boundaries with peers doesn’t make you difficult.
