Every Saturday, this was our ritual. I’d drop Yuvraaj to football class, then Aarna, my mom and I would head to the beach beside the school. We would buy grains from a man sitting there, and feed pigeons together. After class, Yuvraaj would join us too. It felt wholesome, like a family tradition. But I was wrong. What I thought was “fun” was actually dangerous. 👉 The pigeon population in India has shot up by 150% in just 23 years. 👉 They’re called “flying rats” because they carry diseases just like rats. 👉 In Mumbai, cases of pigeon-related lung disease have gone up 5X. One of them is Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis—a lung condition that causes irreversible damage. Add to that fungal infections, asthma triggers, even heart problems. And the worst part? We are the reason. By feeding them, we’ve made them dependent. No hunting, no struggle—just easy food and rapid breeding. So much so that: ✔️ BMC is considering controlled pigeon-feeding zones ✔️ Fines are already in place in Mumbai & Pune ✔️ Doctors everywhere are warning families to stay away This isn’t about faith vs. science. This is about our children’s health vs. our habits. As a mom, I had to wake up. Feeding pigeons wasn’t bonding time—it was exposing my kids to invisible danger. And that’s not a risk I’m willing to take. So here’s my request to every parent reading this: ❌ Stop feeding pigeons. 📢 Talk about it with your kids. 💪 Share this post—because awareness is the first step to protecting our families. A small shift in tradition today could save countless lives tomorrow. Do you feed pigeons? Did you know the dangers? #MomLife #Mumbai #StopFeedingPigeons #ParentingTruths #ProtectOurKids #CleanAirMumbai #FlyingRats #FamilyHealth #UrbanAwareness #healthoverhabits #pigeonfeeding #organicreels
