I stumbled upon an Instagram ad that said: ‘Let’s make Sister x Sister Rakhi a thing.’ But here’s the thing - my sister and I have been doing it for years! Growing up, we’d feel a little left out on Rakhi, watching our friends & cousins tie rakhis on their brothers’ wrists. We’d settle for being part of the cousin circle, but deep down, I longed to tie Rakhi to my “own brother” - only on Rakhi day. My mom sensed it I guess and came up with a solution - that I would tie a rakhi on my sister’s wrist, and just like that, a new tradition was born. And I was so happy that I didn’t have to depend on a brother to celebrate a festival, because my sister is enough. As we grew older, this tradition only became more meaningful coz sisterhood is truly a gift, and we should celebrate it.
