Baby grunting, turning red, pushing… but nothing happening? This can look like gas or constipation, but in many young babies it’s actually infant dyschezia. It simply means your baby is still learning how to coordinate the muscles needed to pass stool. The brain must relax the pelvic muscles while pushing with the abdomen — and babies are just figuring this out. So they may grunt, strain, clench their fists, and even turn red for a few minutes before passing stool (or sometimes nothing at all). It may look uncomfortable, but most babies are not in pain — just frustrated while learning this new skill. The good news: this phase is very common and temporary, and usually resolves on its own as the baby’s nervous system matures. Sometimes, the body just needs a little practice. #InfantDyschezia #BabyDevelopment #NewbornCare #MomifyTips #BabyPoopGuide
